Indie bookstore Three Lives & Company is a small West Village gem with a loyal following due to their knowledgeable and well-read staff and eclectic selection of books. Their strength is literary fiction, but they also carry a little bit of everything, including poetry, non-fiction, gay and lesbian, cookbooks, soccer, art, biography, memoir, New York, and gardening. The staff is happy to make reading suggestions and will gladly order any title requested by a customer.
The bookstore has a warm and cozy feeling and has become a place for the community to meet and discuss books, culture and events. The staff is service oriented and responsive to feedback from customers. The store has a unique way of displaying books that shows them off in their best artistic light. It’s apparent that they support writers.
The store hosts periodic readings and special events and customers can sign up to be notified via email.
On August 11th, the store will host a “Midnight Release Party” of Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage, the latest novel by Haruki Murakami. There will be music, food and a raffle for signed copies of the book.
